Chances are, you’ve stumbled upon someone else’s while searching for industry info or when trying to pick a service provider to hire.
Resource pages look different between industries but the benefits are endless.
When you have a solid source of quality resources on your website, it builds trust with your website visitor! When you share free information that’s valuable, your website visitors are likely to become repeat visitors and who knows – maybe someday they’ll be a paying client or customer!
Sharing resources positions yourself as an expert or leader in your industry. By sharing valuable information, people will begin to see you as the authority on that subject and that’s another way to build trust in your business.
By sharing helpful information for your clients or customers, it enhances their experience. For example, a family photographer sharing tips for picking outfits for family sessions is a massive help to their clients. It also helps that photographer because they have less to explain. Answer as many of your clients objections/questions as possible.
Depending on the kind of business you have, you have affiliate links to share that are helpful to your clients or website visitors but also benefit you by allowing you to earn a bit of money. Examples are affiliate links for your CRM, products you use for your business, and more.
So now we know WHY you need a resources page, what exactly should go on there? I suggest utilizing as much current content as possible as long as it’s valuable.
Some examples of what you could include are:
Current blog posts you already have that contain helpful information like tips for your current or future clients are perfect for your resources page. Some examples for different businesses could be:
…and more! The possibilities are endless.
Do you have any free resources you’ve made over the years for your email list? Think things like guides, checklists, digital downloads, etc. Include them for download on your resources page.
What tools do you use for your business? This could look like CRMs, email marketing, software, presets, and more. This is especially helpful if you do any sort of education in your business OR have a service where you work for small businesses (like I do!).
Is there an adjacent industry you work closely with where you could make recommendations? For example, as a brand and web designer, I often work with copywriters, brand photographers, and more. There are some that I specifically prefer to work with and can recommend because I know the quality of their work is always spot on. Let’s go back to the family photographer example – for them it could be hair and makeup artists they suggest, etc.
Are there products you highly recommend? This could be influencer-esque like an Amazon list OR it could be suggestions on where to purchase clothing for a session, where to get albums printed, where to have business cards printed, what business books spoke to you, and more.
One thing to keep in mind is that your expertise is valuable. I think sometimes as small business owners, we assume that our clients and everyone else just know what we know but that is very often not the case.
Your clients and your website visitors will appreciate your valuable input and position on things that may seem obvious or mundane to you. Don’t let your resource page overwhelm you and don’t overthink it!
