This year as my typical slow season approached, I wanted to make the absolute most out of it. Everyone experiences slow seasons during the year and mine tends to be late spring after all of the New Year’s traffic wraps up.
I don’t know about you but my slow season freaks me out! Even though I know it’s coming, it always makes me feel uncomfortable. This year, I got a LOT done and as things are picking back up again, I’m so glad I took the time to work in my business. It benefits not only me, but my clients. I want to give them the best experience possible and that means taking the time to spend working on all of the behind the scenes tasks that tend to take a back seat during my busy times.
This year during my 3-4 week slower season in April I
Reevaluated my inquiry/onboarding process
Man, I was spending TOO much time writing the same email over and over again. I went into Honeybook and set up email templates for everything I could. I created a custom contact form that takes care of most of the steps for me – sending an email when I get an inquiry that links to my calendar so they can set up a call at a time that works for them. No more back and forth – hey does this work for you? No? Okay what about this date? Okay let me make a zoom invite. NOPE. Honeybook actually integrates with Zoom and automatically makes and sends one. I can’t believe I didn’t know about that sooner! It’s going to be a time saver and game changer!
Gathered and organized my reviews
I went back and gathered the reviews I’d not gotten yet and organized everything into one document so I had them handy for social media + my copywriter!
Worked with a copywriter
When I knew I was going to be slow for a bit, I KNEW I had to work with a copywriter. Copywriting is something I had invested in on a semi custom level but when you’re looking to take your business to the next level, copywriting is a game changer. Kayla from the Literary Co worked her magic and gave me a copy strategy and website copy that I’m so excited about. Honestly if you’re serious about growing your biz, professional copywriting is an investment that is 100% worth it.
Made time for passion projects
This is SO important as a creative business owner to just stay fresh. Is there anything you’ve wanted to try but haven’t had a client ask for? Don’t wait around for someone to ask you – make it happen yourself! I’ve been wanting to design for a few industries I haven’t gotten inquiries for so I explored that and came up with full brands for a few of those dream clients.
Updated my portfolio
I updated my portfolio with some of those projects. I also included more recent brands I’d not had time to add yet and I updated the existing brands with more mockups + graphics so viewers can get more of a full view of what the brands are like.
New website
My brand was due for a refresh! I literally hadn’t had time to change much of anything since I switched over from Etsy over a year ago so it was definitely time! I’m doing something totally different now and my ideal client has changed – it was time my brand + website got a refresh to reflect that new direction. I also added the Brand Intensive so I needed a page for that.
In addition to my website, I updated all of my social media graphics, multiple guides, templates, etc to reflect my updated brand.
It was a very productive month to say the least, and as I’m starting to book up again, I am SO glad that I streamlined everything + worked on back end items that will push my business forward.
All of that being said, this is the time of year that starts getting really busy for me – I’d LOVE to get you on the calendar but we should talk soon! Head over to the contact page and let’s chat about your custom brand so we can get you recognized and build connection with your dream clients.
Lyra Studios creates purposeful brands for women in business so they can be recognized in luxury markets and build connection at every touchpoint. If you’re ready to ditch the DIY cycle and create a brand that will help your business grow, get in touch and let’s get started.
